STONE SOUP

Stone Soup
Stone Soup is a story about making something from nothing. A good-tasting soup, beginning with a stone and boiling water, becomes a fabulous soup with the addition of a little bit of this and that.
For Thanksgiving this year in Room 108 we will be celebrating the harvest with the making of Stone Soup.  Each student is being asked to contribute a vegetable, noodles or spices to make our soup.  We will be reading different versions of the Stone Soup story throughout the week leading up to Thanksgiving.
Please help your child pick out a vegetable to bring to our Soup.

Stone Soup has traditionally had:
Potatoes, Onions, Carrots, Celery, Sweet Potatoes, Various Spices.
We will be collecting the Vegetables from September 30 to October 10.  We will be making the soup for afternoon snack on October 10th.
Thank you

Mrs. Makin     Ms. Wheeler   Ms. Trewin

Introduction Letter

September Character Education Trait:
RESPECT

Dear Students, Parents and Guardians

I would like to take this occasion to introduce myself and my excitement about working with your child.

My name is Heather Webb Makin and I love teaching, especially Kindergarten, as I get to experience first-hand the opening of young minds to new concepts and the new learning environment around them.  I will be working closely with Ms. Wheeler, our classroom Educational Assistant to ensure the success of the program in our classroom.
We will be sending home a FRIDAY FOLDER every week.  It will be containing either reading, class poems, math or easy assignments for the whole family to do together.  We ask that this folder be brought back every MONDAY.  We will reward your child with a sticker when returned on time.

Also, as Kindergarten is a big change for everyone, could you please supply your child with a change of clothes in case there is an accident.  We try our best to remind the students to use the washroom, but sometimes it is not enough.  If an extra set of clothes is available to the student, they feel less conscience of incident.
If you have any questions or concerns I am available for phone calls and appointments immediately before or after school.  I also have a class blog site that you can access to see any class or school news.
Class Blog can be found at www.makineducation.blogspot.com

Sincerely

Robin in the Rain

ROBIN IN THE RAIN

Robin in the rain,
Such a saucy fellow.
Robin in the rain,
Mind your socks of yellow.
Running in the garden on your nimble feet,
Digging for your dinner with your long strong beak.
Robin in the rain,
You don't mind the weather
Showers always make you gay.
Bet the worms are wishing you would stay at home,
Robin on a rainy day -- don't get your feet wet,
Robin on a rainy day!

March 8th, 2012

Dear Students, Parents and Guardians

I would like to take this occasion to introduce myself and my excitement about working with your child.  Principal Brown has given me the opportunity, to continue the fantastic work of Ms. Grierson in Room 107 for the remainder of the school year.

I love teaching, especially Kindergarten, as I get to experience first hand the opening of young minds to new concepts and the new learning environment around them.  I will be working closely with Ms. Wheeler to ensure the continuity of the program in our classroom.

If you have any questions or concerns I am available for phone calls and appointments immediately before or after school.  I also have a class blog site that you can access to see any class or school news.
